School of Science announces new Ph.D. program in applied social and organizational psychology
INDIANAPOLIS -- This degree program will equip students with a strong research foundation and the professional skills necessary not only for conducting research to understand how individuals function within groups and organizations but also for applying research findings to the solution of real-world societal and organizational problems.
Health data science degree approved by IU Board of Trustees
INDIANAPOLIS -- Students will have the option to earn a minor in computer science from the Department of Computer and Information Science.
The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis will offer the health data science degree in partnership with the School of Science's Department of Computer and Information Science and the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI.
Data science is a burgeoning interdisciplinary field requiring a diverse set of skills to extract knowledge and insights from data.
The School of Science celebrates a successful year at the eighth annual IUPUI Regatta
INDIANAPOLIS – Eleven Science-affiliated teams competed and the Science Alumni 1 team, consisting of Justin Kosiba, Jeremy Sherer, Dillon Etter and Whitney Walker, took home fifth place in the co-ed division.
Walker, a 2016 interdisciplinary studies alumna, was excited to row for the first time as a Science alumna.
“I couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming and supportive team,” Walker said. “Regatta is one of my favorite ways to reconnect with the sense of community I had as a Science undergraduate.”
Science alumna wins graduate student award
INDIANAPOLIS -- Patel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on neuroscience from the IUPUI School of Science. She completed her doctoral degree in the Medical Neuroscience Graduate Program at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) under the guidance of Theodore Cummins, Ph.D.
John T. Hazer Distinguished Psychology Alumni awardees announced
INDIANAPOLIS – At the ceremony, Larry Williams and Margaret (Peg) Williams were recognized for their contributions to the field of industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology. Larry Williams’s Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) was noted as an invaluable research and teaching resource for the social sciences and Margaret Williams’s research on leadership, compensation and work-life issues was acknowledged as paving the way for women in academia.
Ten Science and Math Doctoral Degrees Now Awarded from IUPUI Campus
INDIANAPOLIS -- The decisions mean that six Purdue science and math doctoral degrees will now be awarded from the Indianapolis campus, reflecting the programs' national prominence and success in obtaining external funding. These are long existing programs that have graduated many successful students.Previously, students enrolled in these programs at IUPUI but the degrees were credited to the West Lafayette campus.
IUPUI ranked a top university by U.S. News and World Report
INDIANAPOLIS -- IUPUI’s programs for incoming freshman and undergraduate success were highlighted in the report, including its first-year experiences, which help freshman feel more connected to campus. IUPUI was also recognized for its learning communities and service-learning programs.
IUPUI is tied for 197th in national universities and tied for 106th in top public schools.
School of Science alumnus endows $500,000 scholarship to provide graduation boost
INDIANAPOLIS -- Kent Hawryluk earned a master's degree in biology from the school in 2013. The Hawryluk Family Scholarship will provide funding for junior or senior science students to take essential coursework required for graduation. This scholarship will be awarded to students with a strong academic record and who work while attending the School of Science. Juniors and seniors will apply directly for these essential funds to help them complete their degree.
Study: During drought, dry air can stress plants more than dry soil
INDIANAPOLIS -- The finding suggests that models used to gauge the impact of drought on ecosystems should be refined to more accurately account for the role of low atmospheric humidity. It will become more important in the future, as the Earth’s climate grows warmer and lower humidity has an increasing impact.
